For my first music video review, I’m reviewing mixtape phenom, Drake’s “Best I ever Had”. We all know who Drake is, and we have all fallen victim to his smooth and interesting rhymes on his mixtape hit “Best I ever Had”. I know I have. So naturally I was very excited to see how the video would be. I then heard that it was directed by Kanye West. Kanye has done some very good videos, so this added to my excitement. I couldn’t wait for the video to come out. I was anxious now. When I got word that the video had premiered, I rushed around to find it. Twitter was abuzz. I finally found the video with help by fellow blogger and Treymate, Sabrina (@thinkin_ONPAPER). She sent me the link to necolebitchie.com, where she saw the video, via Twitter.
I rushed onto the site and found it. “Finally” I told myself. I pressed play and… I was quickly disappointed. The video starts out in an auditorium at the beginning of a basketball game. Then a team of big breasted female basketball players appear. First off their uniforms consist of low cut jerseys and booty short. (Both unrealistic and degrading.) So within the first 30 seconds you see jiggling boobs. Being the music lover I am; I figure it has to get better. No, it doesn’t. The whole focus is on these scantily clad hoochies. (Yes, I went there.)Whether they’re running up the stairs in crop tops and booty shorts, again breasts all in the camera, or them doing “sexy” stretches in the same outfits. In slow motion if I may add. SMH. Then these silly girls want Drake to tell them they’re the best before a game against some big crazy looking girls. Needless to say they get blown out. Drake, being their coach forgot to teach them how to play. He was too concentrated on their stretching. (Gee, I wonder why.) I’m not even going to comment on his timeout “speech”, except for “fail”.
To sum it all up, this video is beyond disappointing. We’ve seen better from Kanye. Since when was he all about booty and breasts? Kanye has had videos that made you think. It may have been “WTF?”, but it still made you think. It was art. Another thing, where was Drake? It was his video after all. You saw Drake rapping very briefly in his coaching office and in a stairwell for only a few seconds before the boobs, I mean the girls showed up. The last and most obvious failure of this video was the concept. “Best I Ever Had” is love song, meant to be played for that special someone. There was no hint of this in the video. Not a single scene portraying anything in the song at all. For me personally the only good part was a very brief cameo made by Mr. Trey Songz.
So in short, because I could go on forever, if you’re a fan of Drake or the song, I don’t suggest watching this video unless you want to hit him for thinking this was good. I know I want to hit him and Kanye, and ask them to pay me for the five minutes of my life I wasted watching this video. Actually it’s 10 minutes, because I had to watch it again to review it. Drake’s “Best I Ever Had” video gets an F for TOTAL FAILURE!!SMH.The video is posted below if you really feel you need to watch it. Don’t disappoint us next time Drizzy.
