Remember the Legacy Not the Controversy

WHATS UP LIFERS I HAD TO GET ON HERE AND SAY THIS MJ SOLD 2.6 MILLION RECORDS THIS WEEK IM SICK OF HEARING THE BULLSHIT LETS TALK ABOUT THAT about 3 hours ago from web

HE HAS 25 SONGS ON THE 75 SONG DIGITAL CHART THRILLER SOLD THIS WEEK 167K NOBODYS FUCKING WIT HIM !!!!!!!!!!!! TELL AOL TO REPORT THAT about 3 hours ago from web

These were tweets sent by So So Def president Jermaine “JD” Dupri, leader of the “Lifers” and “Dem Ocean Boys”, or @LTLline to his over 44,000 Twitter followers. These are in regards to all the media coverage on the recent loss of his girl, Janet Jackson’s brother, Michael Jackson. I thought I would share my opinion on this whole thing.

I completely agree with JD! How is it that we are able to mourn and celebrate the legacy of a man that brought us so much joy, then by the end of the weekend start to speculate his life? Michael hasn’t been gone for a week yet and the news and gossip blogs are already going ham on his personal life. Was there a will? Are the kids really his? Who gets what? Was he on drugs? WHO CARES! Those are questions that should only be asked of the Jackson family. Who are we to look into his life? I understand being a fan, but being a fan doesn’t mean we need to know everything. If the family wants us to know they will release such sensitive information. Among the media mess what Michael represented is being lost. Local news stations are even focusing on this garbage. Leave the family be, and let them grieve. Give them space and privacy. Let us true Michael fans miss and remember the King of Pop as he was, and not how the media is trying to make him look. I would like to know what took this musical genius, and overall good person away from his devoted fans just like the next person, but I don’t want to hear it from TMZ or CNN. If your last name isn’t Jackson, I’m not hearing it.

This whole situation about Michael has gone out of control. I understand celebrities wanting to show their respect and give their condolences, but some of them are milking this to get attention and get on TV in hopes of reviving their failed careers. We as a collective fan base are forgetting what drew us to Michael in the first place, the music. Why is it we were focused on the music for four days, and then Monday hits and it’s all about speculation. Credible news stations are interviewing everyone from the nanny, to the waitress at a restaurant that Michael ate a week before he died. (I don’t know if there really is a waitress, but you get what I’m trying to say.) Let’s get a grip America!! Why wasn’t it reported that Michael Jackson sold 2.6 million records this week? 2.6 million! Most artists wish to sell that many records in their career, and Mike did it in ONE WEEK! Where is the news report that Thriller has sold over 160,000 downloads, or that he has not 1, not 2, not 3, but 25 songs on a 75 song music chart this week? When can we get back to the music? That’s what Michael Jackson was about, the music.

No matter what comes out about him, I’m still going to remember him as the man that caused me to fall in love with music. I choose to remember him as the man that was able to captivate you with a song about baby mama drama. (Let’s face it. “Billie Jean” sounds like an episode of Maury.)I'm going to remember the man that I knew would never hurt a child. I will remember when I played “Beat It” when he was acquitted. These are what I’m going to remember about Michael Jackson. These are the things I WILL be telling my now 14 month old son a few years from now, just like my mother told me. I’m going to remember Michael Jackson- the entertainer, philanthropist, inspiration, the MAN and the LEGEND. How will YOU remember him?
